Autophagy It is the process of eliminating waste within cells, functioning to break down or remove damaged or unnecessary components, such as abnormal proteins and organelles known as degenerated ones, in order to maintain balance and generate energy within the cell (ATP) for efficient operation.

When autophagy in hair follicle cells malfunctions, it can lead to hair loss and thinning. This dysfunction can be categorized into two main types.

• Excessive Autophagy (Hyperactive Autophagy) It will cause hair follicle cells to break down more rapidly. When hair follicle cells break down quickly, the hair on the scalp is forced to enter the resting or shedding phase (Telogen Phase) more rapidly. In other words, excessive Autophagy accelerates the death of hair follicle cells.
